Need for FPO
A major change in marketing was also brought in by the IFPCL. For last so many years, the traders were buying the live pigs through bidding process without taking into consideration of the quality/weight parameters of the livestock, resulting in financial loss to the farmer. But an initiative was taken by IFPCL, wherein FPO started purchasing pigs according to the weight of animal and at a price higher than the market. This has resulted in an increase of market price of animal by Rs. 2500-3000/- per animal. Now, the Pig farmers are able to sell their pigs according to its weight and thus earning the proper price for their produce. This has changed the market and made Pig farming a profitable business.
